comes Benjamin of runs as just out the Konrad room—spurt!

Benjamin made complete sense out of all that. After all, he was asleep and it was his dream. A rerun at that. The night before—actually the morning before—he’d had the same dream, but the words weren’t even in the right sentences that first time. This was better, he thought in his sleep: It’s one thing to write The World’s First Deliberately Nonlinear Novel; it’s quite another thing to risk being misunderstood! Which was an important consideration for him at that moment because it was to be his first real novel; he was giving up playwriting forever.

He wasn’t at all sure why the novel had to be nonlinear, but dreams have their

own logic, and he could accept that.

The story line was easy to remember because it was true. And very recent. To

recap: The hero had been working with the set model of his new play when suddenly the

dolls had sprung to life, flung off their clothes, clung to each other and brung on an orgy.

Hero simply gets caught up in the excitement. Lover enters, gets jealous, has a fit,

 exits en climaxis!

Still asleep. His right hand fingered the wetness on his belly; his left hand searched

about blindly, expecting to find Konrad’s head down there somewhere.

     It wasn’t.
